Art & History Museums of Maitland

The Art & History Museums of Maitland is one of the local history museums in Florida. It is located at 231 W Packwood Ave, Maitland, FL 32751. It is operated by the Maitland Historical Society. It specializes in local history. The museum is free to visit and features many exhibits about the local history of the city. The Maitland Art & History Museum is comprised of two distinct sites designed by visionary artist J. Andre Smith. The studio and gallery opened in 1937, and a chapel and recreation area were added later. Smith continued to add to the site for the next two decades, adding sculptures until his death in 1969. In 1969, the city of Maitland purchased the Research Studio and saved it from demolition.
